Woodland Planter's Days

Celebrating Another Year Without Flooding

The observance of Woodland Planters’ Days started in 1922 to celebrate the dikes protecting the Woodland area. The dikes allowed farmers to get their crops in early, so the town had much to rejoice because their stores and homes were safe from flooding. In 1937, the coronation of a queen was added to the festivities, with the queen selected from a court of three princesses. Over the years this celebration has evolved into a four-day event.

Activities include a main parade, kids’ parade, bed races, raffles, vendors, car show, music and firemen’s barbecue. Woodland firefighters take Planters’ Days seriously. Come see how they play ball! But be warned that watching this part of the festival could leave you slightly cooler than when you started.

This wonderful family event also features fireworks, a carnival, frog-jumping contest and the fabulous Lion's Pancake Breakfast.
